Sydney's Experiences: Kaia Initiative and Genshin Impact x S.E.A. Aquarium Event

Updated: Nov 22, 2024

Recently, I visited S.E.A. Aquarium for their ongoing Genshin Impact event, as well as to explore the broad range of marine biodiversity. I’m sure we’ve all visited the S.E.A. Aquarium at least once, but I was a young toddler who was scared of the fish and sharks (and the colour blue… I was scared of most things…).

This visit reminded me that aquariums are not just a place to marvel at marine life but a profound educational journey that reshapes how we perceive the ocean and its inhabitants. The grandeur of the Open Ocean habitat was awe-inspiring, with its massive viewing panel offering a glimpse into a vibrant underwater world where manta rays and schools of fish moved with a mesmerising fluidity.

Each exhibit was thoughtfully designed to educate visitors. Informative displays about the species, from their behaviours to their conservation status, provided context and highlighted the critical need for marine conservation. Learning about endangered species such as the dugong and various sharks underscored the urgency of protecting these creatures and their habitats. Interactive elements, like the touch pools and digital learning stations, added a hands-on dimension to the experience, making the science behind marine ecosystems more vivid and accessible.

I think Kaia Initiative helped me build on my existing interest in marine life. To be honest, my interest in marine biodiversity used to be limited to clownfish and turtles with plastic straws. Joining as a volunteer, and then a member of the core team of Kaia Initiative helped me gain a greater insight into the challenges faced by the ocean. I find myself more knowledgeable about sea life even in the aquarium, where I think my past self would have simply walked past the exhibits without blinking.

The beauty of the marine life I’ve seen has reminded me of the importance of raising awareness, and helping as much as possible. Through Kaia Initiative, I hope to be able to make a difference to marine life via our various initiatives and programmes, both educating and taking action. Leaving the ocean in its best form for future generations to appreciate and study is more important than many think, and every step helps.
